Most food production processes need to detect metal in the line or at the end of the line. This is due to the fact that metal is one among the most prevalent contaminants found in food products.
Metal contamination can occur at all stages of food processing. This includes the construction of food machinery and equipment as well as the handling equipment.
Food grade metal detectors are capable of detecting the three main types: Ferrous; Non-Ferrous; and Stainless Steel. This is usually due to their magnetic, conductive and other attributes.
There are three types of metal detectors found in the food business:
* Search Head metal detectors can be used for inspection of fruits and vegetables, cereals as well meats and bread products.
* Conveyor-based detectors for metal detection that are used in the inspection of fruits and vegetables, as well as meats, eggs, yogurt, and bread products.
* Pipeline metal detectors that are used for pumping products such beverages, sauces or soups.
* Vertical Fall Metal Detectors are used for the detection and analysis of contaminants in powders or grains.
All of the metal detection methods mentioned can be used, as well as a combination of them, to detect metal contaminants in packaged goods and bulk goods.
