The scanner uses advanced facial recognition technology to identify you as an individual and then allows you to pass through the machine without having to remove your shoes or belt. It's ideal for use at large events where staff needs to be able to quickly check for explosives, such as sports games, conferences and conventions.
The scanner can also be used at airports for security checks on passengers who do not want to remove their shoes or belts.
The airport body check is a non-touch security check. It is also known as "walk through" scanning.
It uses a metal detector to detect any metallic items on the person, such as coins, keys, or jewelry. The body check is performed by an officer at the checkpoint who will ask you to remove your coat, hat and belt (if applicable), shoes and socks, watch and any other items that could be dangerous if they were to be used as a weapon.
When you arrive at the airport, you may undergo a body scan instead of a pat-down search. This procedure has no radiation or X-rays involved and uses millimeter waves that penetrate clothing without being intrusive or uncomfortable for the passenger in question. The passenger may choose to opt out of this procedure by raising their hand just prior to going through it themselves so that they do not receive any discomfort from having their clothing scanned with these devices."
