Audited Supplier The walk-through metal detector (WTMD) is a type of x-ray machine used to detect illegal items that have been smuggled into the country. The machine is set up in airport security zones, where passengers walk through it and are screened by the device's radiation.
The WTMD can be set up in any screening area, including baggage claim areas, ticket counters, and boarding gates. It allows inspectors to search for contraband items like guns, knives or ammunition. In some cases, it can also detect narcotics.
Security officials use the WTMD to find weapons that may have been smuggled into an airport; however, it will not detect all types of weapons. The device does not give off any radiation itself-instead it uses x-rays to create an image of what is inside the body cavity of a person's body (for example: their waistband). The WTMD is primarily used as a last resort when other methods fail; it is only used when there is no other option available at the time given its limitations as mentioned earlier on this page
