Metal detection has been used since long as a tool to locate foreign metal objects within food. However, metal detection has been criticized until recently. Mineral-rich foods like fresh green salads or high-salt food, such as meat, cheese and fresh-baked goods, are highlyconductive and can mimic the signals of metal detectors. Metal detectors were also susceptible for environmental conditions like temperature swings, electromagnetic interference and nearby equipment in the plant.
